We’re excited to partner with #TheNew, an influencer-driven content campaign to empower young Asian-American and Pacific Islander voters.
This sweatshirt is inspired by a photo taken by Dorothea Lange in 1942, which shows the Wanto Co. store located at Eighth and Franklin Streets in Oakland, CA. The business was owned by the Matsuda family, and the day after Pearl Harbor, Tatsuro Matsuda commissioned and installed a sign that read: "I am an American." The store was closed following orders to forcibly remove persons of Japanese descent from certain West Coast areas.
